More photos from my recent trip, this time of my avian friends. I could seriously take up birdwatching as a hobby if I lived there!

Because every marina needs a guard pelican...

Great Blue Heron, preening

...hunched against the wind and looking as grumpy as I felt over the cold temperatures. Then again, I'm not sure they actually ever look happy.

More marina security

Will wade for food. Isn't he cute??

I have always loved sandpipers. 🙂

I lost this staredown.

I have no idea what these are. I don't even know where to start looking LOL! Anyone??

It doesn't get much more Florida-y than the lovely ibis. 🙂

Roseate Spoonbills. Like flamingos, their "pinkness" results from pigments inherent to their diet. I used to see them in mass quantities on US-1 from the Keys to the Florida mainland, but water levels have dropped so that their habit is no longer visible from that stretch of road. 😦

Identified the mystery bird! I found it on a website for Florida birds, then smacked my forehead as the name shown on the nature’s park information board suddenly popped back up into my brain LOL!
Common Moorhen
Beautiful birdies! I was going to say it looks like our coot mudhens but with a red head.
Reblogged this on A Panda's Florida Notebook and commented:
I’ve blogged on the mallard and Florida ibis earlier. Here’s a post on some other water birds in the sunshine state from April’s Atelier. Bird lovers, animal lovers and whoever loves nature, attention please! Florida is a paradise!
Not to be contrary, but I believe the “ibis” is a wood
stork. We have a lot of them around the golf course behind us. Recognized by size and the dark head. This one is hunched down, so a little difficult to see “full figure”.
